The spirit of innovation is collaboration, it takes courage, authenticity, and transparent communication.
I have seen many organizations attempt to embody innovation as a main pillar, without any of the above. Even worse, they have rooms called the innovation room meanwhile they will punish anyone who ‘fails’ in an innovation endeavor. False pretences are a recipe for failure, and one thing I learned is that if you’re are not true to the spirit then innovation will come back and bite you in the ass.
🤦🏻♂️ The spirit is voluntary and willingly, one of going the extra mile, not twisting arms and punishing for failure as if it is “business as usual”.
Some management love to claim such a title of being innovative, yet they question a simple welcoming giveaway to the people who were invited unto the journey. What happened to positivity and working together? Hell, this way employees would prefer to focus on the core function and fulfilling KPIs in order to keep their job security!
✊🏼 Under no circumstances give in to the falsehood of innovation, keep true to the spirit and your endeavors will bear fruition.
Not to sound preachy or anything, but this is important, critical, and even a predecessor to a success. You can’t ask for peoples help, then punish them if they do not deliver. You cannot force them to participate, and blame them if they don’t. You shouldn’t ask for their ideas, and then laugh at them; silly as if some might sound.
“There is no innovation and creativity without failure. Period” — Brené Brown.
