Some have referred to innovation as being a theatre, an entertaining performance for somebody’s enjoyment. But they got it so wrong, the performing arts of theatre is very inspirational and sometimes even magical. Remember, inspiration is key to unlocking creativity and the same applies to innovation.
🎭 When someone is referring to an innovation based culture, then they mean all the engagement points that are created through innovation activities are plays of a lifetime. Yes, there is a theatrical side to innovation and I’ll tell why it’s so important.
You see, there are two types of innovation participators: (1) a believer, or (2) a preacher. And once they believe, oh boy do they start to preach. This is important simply because it is necessary to scout and engage talent that will join the journey once they start believing. The common values the group of potential innovators share brings them together and ignites a collaboration spirit, and then the energy becomes contagious.
🎉 Any activity that engages an audience or participators is the engine that will stir more contribution and collaboration.
It is quite invigorating and overwhelming at times, but if the room starts getting hyped up, then you must be doing something right! In other words, don’t underestimate the importance of engagement activities. They take a stance at the underbelly of innovation, which is community building.
“Theatre is a form of knowledge; it should and can also be a means of transforming society. Theatre can help us build our future, rather than just waiting for it” — Augusto Boal.
Yeah I failed to mention, just like in any theatrical performance, everyone plays a role that is both crucial and well timed. And just like that, innovation is an art. A truly mesmerizing performance that transcends the boundaries of four walls.
